We arrived in Cabo San Lucas on February 20, 2022, by Jeep. We booked 4 nights at Quinta del Sol Hotel. It was located just 10 minutes from the Malecon/marina area.
Cabo San Lucas is located at the most southern tip of the Baja California Sur. It is where the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez meet.
Los Cabos is the county that incorporates the two Cabos, San Jose del Cabo, and Cabo San Lucas.
Los Cabo is rated as one of Mexico’s top 5 tourist destinations, Los Cabo is known for its beaches, spectacular weather, water sports, luxurious resorts, shopping, excursions and nightlife.
As soon as we arrived, checked into our hotel, we headed down to the Malecon/marina.
The first tour we took was the Harbor Tour in a glass-bottom boat. We got to see the famous Arch, Lovers Beach, Divorce Beach and Pelican Rock. The cost of this harbor tour was only $20 US each and Gus got to go for free.
One of the iconic restaurants/night club in Cabo is the Cabo Wabo which is located in the Malecon/marina area just a couple of blocks north. Originally owned by rock star Sammy Hagar and other members of Van Halen. It was named after their hit single Cabo Wabo.
We had lunch at the Cabo Wabo one afternoon and enjoyed listening to a live band playing American rock and roll. I order a Margarita and they surprised me with two, lol. The food was good but the vibe of the restaurant/nightclub make this a unique place to eat.
The Malecon/marina area is a fun place to walk around. Because Los Cabo is a seaport there is some great option if you love seafood. The fish tacos from the Baja California Peninsula are world-famous, and smoked marlin is especially popular in Los Cabos. Other popular foods include squid, crab, stingray, abalone, lobster and shrimp to name a few.
Shopping on the Malecon, anything from souvenirs to high-end jewelry, clothing, and home décor. There is something for everyone. Vendors line the Malecon hoping to entice you with their goods and/or services. It can become annoying after a few days but remember Los Cabo heavily relies on its tourism to survive.
Cruz ships, yachts, sailboats and tour boats fill the marina. We even saw a pirate ship in the bay.
One of our bucket list items for Cabo San Lucas was to take a tour boat to see the Humpback whales. We saw a Fin whale in Loreto, pet a Grey whale baby in San Carlos, swam in the waters in La Paz with the Whale Sharks, so we were looking forward to seeing the Humpbacks whales in Cabo.
Every year 10,000 Humpback whales migrate through the Baja California Sur region in wintertime. They arrive each year to have their babies and to mate in the safe warm waters of the bays.
We booked a Humpback whale-watching tour on a big catamaran called the Caborey. The price of the tickets also includes all you can eat for breakfast and drinks.
As we cruised into the Pacific side of the bay our cruise host pointed out this golf course called Quivira Golf Club. Jack Nicklaus and his design firm created five courses and 99 holes of golf in this region, in 13 years and this is one of his courses.
In the picture to the right, we were told that this is Will Smith’s home. This region is famous for movie stars and other celebrities.
We loved Los Cabo (Cabo San Lucas) for its beauty and weather. We enjoyed our time here, but it’s time to hit the road. Next stop La Ribera.
