La Salina is a gringo community and is located on the beach 73 km south of Tijuana. La Salina is the home of Puerto Salina, the first marina in Mexico south of the US border. The marina had 240 slips and in its glory days accommodated 100-foot yachts. Today the marina is filled with sand and only a few broken-down boats remain, they are beached.
There are 2 large RV parks in La Salina, Baja Seasons RV Resort, and Clam Beach RV Resort. Both sites have easy access to the beach. We chose Baja Seasons because they have a swimming pool, laundry room, and an on-site restaurant. A huge bonus is the cash machine in the lobby in the community/rental office. It’s not always easy to find a cash machine in Baja.
We reserved a space here at Baja Seasons Resort for a month. This site has full hook-ups 30-amp, water, and sewer. Baja Season is a huge RV Resort with plenty of areas for Gus to run and chase the ball. Their restaurant served unique foods including this whole fish dinner.
A short drive from the resort is the Casa del Diablo located in the town of La Mision. Tony Wells, a Mexican nationalized American built this house and filled it with strange treasures. Check out the videos on YouTube you won’t be sorry, it’s fascinating. We were able to walk to the front of the house and view all the strange attractions.
In between Rosarito and Ensenada is Puerto Nuevo. Puerto Nuevo is known for its multiple lobster houses. In fact, as you drive into the town there are employees of each restaurant waving you to park at their lobster house. Our favorite was Ortega’s Lobster House. They also make great margaritas!
Another fun restaurant in the area is Splash Restaurant and Bar. They have good food and drinks. On the weekend they have live music. They also have outside dining with a great view of the ocean.
When you think about Baja, you may not associate it with vineyards and wineries, but just outside of the city of Ensenada is wine country. These vineyards produce 90% of the country’s wines. We visited one of these wineries. We enjoyed tasting their different types of wines with hors d’ oeuvres. It was a fun afternoon on a beautiful day. The day we went there was a birthday party going on. What a good idea!
We did enjoy our time at La Salina and the surrounding area. It’s time to hit the road, the next stopover Vicente Guerrero.
Cheers!
